The brief they came with
Nick Gawne had been selling CANOPY skincare online for about eight months, from a Wix site he built himself. It started life as a brochure site. It was slow, and he had to pay for upgrades to get the basics. He wanted a proper selling site on Shopify, built from a theme, with the copy and photography his team already had ready.
The range was small, 12 to 15 products: serums, creams, facial oil, soy candles and a seasonal candle subscription box. What he needed help with was design. He wanted the USPs to come across clearly, the sales banners to be laid out properly and the typography to feel premium. In his words, he had worked hard on the photography and product design but didn't have "the full capabilities to make a Shopify selling website really work."
The problem
The theme Nick chose, Savage, gave him about 70% of what he wanted. The rest came from references he'd collected: the product description layout from Cosmo, dropdown menus with images, video banners and, later, Jo Malone and NEOM. Most of these were custom sections the theme didn't have, so they had to be coded.
The product photography was strong but looked poor in a standard grid. The page needed one large image with a gallery down the side, and it had to hold up on mobile as well as desktop.
The site also had to run things Wix never did: a candle subscription, a points-based loyalty programme, gift bags at checkout, and upsells in the cart.
And Nick is not technical, as he told us himself. He changes images and banners every couple of weeks. Anything we built had to be something he could update without calling a developer, and without accidentally publishing a draft.
What we built
- 01 One product page template, applied to every product We built the full product page on Cloud Forest first. It has a single hero image with a side gallery, Why It Works and Key Benefits headers, three botanical ingredient boxes, and dropdowns for ingredients, how to use and sustainability. It also has a Solutions by Concern table that fades the products that don't match. Once Nick signed it off, we rolled it out to all 14 products in the order they appeared on his old site. We had first scoped product entry out of the build, but Nick had been clear about his 12+ products from day one, so we entered every product at no extra cost.
- 02 A candle subscription and a loyalty programme We built a Subscription page with a video banner, a "What's included" section that becomes a swipeable slider on mobile, and a full FAQ. We also fixed the Appstle subscription widget that was breaking the page. For Smile.io, we built a Wellness Points page and set it up to match his rules: points for signing up, following on Instagram and birthdays, and 100 points for £1 off.
- 03 The pages that tell the brand story We built a Discover page as the About section, a Journal with 14 article cards under a soft gradient, and a dedicated Candles page with FAQs. Later we added a Sustainable Practice page modelled on Jo Malone's, with space left for images, and a four-box values section on About modelled on NEOM's.
- 04 The move from Wix to Shopify Nick's domain was registered with 123 Reg and pointed at Wix. To finish the Wix to Shopify migration, we updated the DNS records and connected the domain in Shopify. We also removed the store password and added the tree favicon, and the new site went live on canopybeauty.co.uk on 17 October 2025. Afterwards we cleaned up the leftover domain flag and fixed the domain setting that was blocking customer sign-in.
- 05 Settings he can change himself We built product metafields so every product can carry its own ingredient boxes, "Loved by You" review carousel and sales badges (Save £50, Exclusive). We also removed the fixed dark overlay, so new banner images no longer come out darker than the originals. The Judge.me reviews and a Quizify quiz page went in the same way. When Nick kept seeing his draft theme as the live site, we explained how theme previews and incognito windows work, so he can edit and check changes safely.
- 06 A new homepage and four mega menus Nick came back in September 2026 wanting a shorter homepage built around offers, the kind of ongoing change our Shopify maintenance packages cover. We did the work on a copy of the live theme so nothing changed until he was ready. We built separate desktop and mobile hero images he can swap himself and two buttons on the hero banner. We also built four cream mega menus in the Jo Malone style, each pulling its images from the linked collection. When he wanted to pick the exact image for each menu item, we gave him a size guide (270 × 180 px, transparent or cream background) so the images stay sharp.

“Monkeyman moved our store from Wix to Shopify and built our product pages, candle subscription and wellness points around our own photography and copy. Their communication was excellent, they understood what needed doing, and they were patient with me as someone who is not technical. We are really pleased with our ecommerce site, and they are who we go back to for every change, most recently our new homepage and mega menus. We would recommend working with Monkeyman Agency.”
