A PrestaShop to Shopify migration is, at heart, a decision to stop being your own hosting company. PrestaShop’s open-source model is genuinely powerful, but it hands you the full weight of running a commerce platform: the server, the security, the backups, and the module upgrades that break each other. For a lot of brands, that weight quietly became a second job.
Where the work actually is
The data itself exports reasonably well from PrestaShop. The leverage in the project is in two places: mapping combinations and attributes into Shopify’s variant and metafield model so your catalogue still filters correctly, and preserving the multilingual and multistore structure that PrestaShop handles natively. Get those two right and the rest of the migration is routine.
PrestaShop to Shopify migration cost
We quote fixed-price after a free audit rather than off a headline number, because a single-language catalogue and a three-language multistore build are genuinely different jobs. What moves the cost is catalogue and combination complexity, how many custom modules carry business logic, and whether you are running multiple languages or storefronts. The number worth measuring it against is what self-hosting costs you now: hosting, module licences, security, and the developer time to keep it all patched. Measured against that, the move usually pays for itself well inside a year.
What we don’t do
- We don’t port Smarty theme code. We rebuild the storefront on Online Store 2.0, which is faster and far easier to maintain after launch.
- We don’t carry PrestaShop’s URL structure forward untouched. The 301 redirects do the SEO work and the new URLs follow Shopify conventions.
- We don’t recommend the move if you are a small store, comfortable self-hosting, and PrestaShop is genuinely working for you. The maths only flips once the maintenance starts costing more than it saves.
