Dueros is a jewelry brand that got its Shopify store ready while it waited on a German tax number. We built out the store on Prestige with Klaviyo email flows, a 15,000 customer import and location-based store redirects.

The brief they came with

Dueros sells jewelry online. When we started in May 2023, the store was not yet open. The team was still waiting on a German tax number, and they always had updates and changes in progress. They wanted IT support that could step in fast when something went wrong.

The brief covered updates, changes, adjustments and coding of the theme and store. Work ran as tasks on a shared Trello board. The first and most urgent item was setting up Braintree as a payment gateway. Next came sending shoppers to the right store for their location, then email, customer data and new markets.

The problem

Payments were the first blocker. The team wanted Braintree, and the provider was not answering them. A store that cannot take payments cannot open.

Dueros runs more than one store. Shoppers could land on a store that did not match where they lived. That meant the wrong storefront and the wrong buying setup.

There was no email set up. New subscribers got no welcome, and shoppers who left a cart got no reminder. For a brand about to launch, that meant losing early interest.

The customer list had to move into Shopify. It held about 15,000 customers, and many rows failed to import because of name and phone number errors. Every bad row was a customer the brand could not reach.

Launch timing made everything harder. The store could not open until the German tax number arrived. Anything automated had to stay quiet until then, and new markets such as Andorra had to be ready for opening day.

What we built

  • 01 Payment gateway research for Braintree Braintree was the team's top priority, so we started there in May 2023. We checked whether Braintree offered a direct Shopify integration or whether a third-party app was needed, and looked at connector tools such as Zapier as a fallback. Alongside this, we cleared the first batch of Trello tasks within the first days of the engagement.
  • 02 Location Redirect for the right store The team wanted shoppers sent to the right Dueros store for purchasing. We recommended redirecting visitors based on their IP address or location, and the team agreed. We found the Location Redirect app on the Shopify App Store, which matched the requirement, and passed it to the team to install at the end of May 2023. Shoppers now reach the store meant for their area instead of picking one by hand.
  • 03 Klaviyo welcome and abandoned cart flows In June 2023 we set up Klaviyo for the store. We created a welcome email for new subscribers so people who signed up heard from Dueros straight away, then set up abandoned cart emails to remind shoppers who left items behind. Both flows were built before the store opened, so email would be ready on launch day rather than added later.
  • 04 Cleaning and importing 15,000 customers In August 2023 we imported the brand's list of about 15,000 customers. Many rows threw errors. We filtered the file in Excel to find out why, fixed the name and phone number errors, and uploaded again until the list went in. A few rows had invalid emails, and we skipped those. Some imported customers were marked as subscribed, which triggered the welcome flow early, so we set the Klaviyo flows to draft until the store went live.
  • 05 An Andorra market ahead of launch The German tax number arrived in October 2023, and the store could finally prepare to open. We repeated one of the earlier setup tasks from the Trello list to match the launch. In November 2023 we created a separate market for Andorra. The translations were already prepared in the app, so we researched how to connect them to the new market and set it up.
  • 06 Colour swatches and a safe theme update plan After launch, we stayed on for fixes. In June 2024 the team asked about updating the Prestige theme. We planned to copy over our custom code and test the full site, so nothing would have to be rebuilt. The team postponed the update during their high season. In July 2024 we fixed an issue with the colour swatches we had installed earlier, working through Trello.
