Beef Cakes
beef-cakes.com ↗Beef Cakes is a US brand of high-protein pancake and oatmeal cups. You just add water and microwave, and until now it sold mostly on Amazon. We redesigned the store on Local with a new homepage, Amazon product reviews and a matching sales catalog.

The brief they came with
Beef Cakes makes protein pancakes and oatmeal in a cup, plus a grass-fed organ capsule. The store at beef-cakes.com was live, but the founder felt it was only okay and could be a lot better. Almost every sale came through Amazon, and the brand competes with Kodiak Cakes.
The brief was a redesign on the Local theme. The team wanted to keep the existing colors and brand assets while making the site clearer and easier to navigate. The new layout would follow Figma designs from the client, with Grüns as a style reference. The team also asked to bring their Amazon reviews onto the site.
The problem
The brand's trust lived on Amazon. Its reviews and ratings were there, not on the Shopify store, so a first-time visitor to beef-cakes.com saw little proof that people liked the product.
The reviews the store did show were the wrong ones. The homepage pulled three reviews from Judge.me, and they did not appear to be for Beef Cakes products. That works against a brand asking people to try something new.
The content was there, but it was hard to take in. The live site had the right copy and product details. It needed better spacing, icons and layout so the key points stood out, and so people could find their way around.
Some content promised things the brand did not offer. One asset showed a bulk box, but Beef Cakes had no bulk option yet. The capsules slide also carried claims that made more sense for the pancake cups.
Mobile needed work too. Several brand videos would not upload because Shopify did not support their aspect ratio. The draft homepage also needed layout fixes before it would work on phones.
What we built
- 01 A homepage built from the client's Figma We started on the homepage in a draft copy of the Local theme, so the live store stayed untouched. We built it section by section from the client's Figma files and product photography, keeping the existing palette and brand assets. We used the copy from the live site with clearer spacing and icons. One brand video went up straight away. We asked for the others in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, because their original aspect ratio would not upload to Shopify.
- 02 About, contact, product and collection pages Next came the core pages. We redesigned the About page, the Contact page, the product page, starting with Beef Cakes Protein Maple Pancakes, and the all-products collection page. Each one shared a preview link so Jose could review it before anything went live. When he pointed out a box asset on the product page, we swapped the image, because the brand did not yet sell a bulk option.
- 03 Amazon reviews on the product pages The store already ran Judge.me, but its three homepage reviews were not Beef Cakes reviews. Jose found Amazon Reviews by Reputon, so we installed it and he connected it to his Amazon listings and ran the imports. The reviews did not show at first. Then the team worked out that Reputon only displays Amazon reviews on product pages, so that is where the real customer reviews now sit.
- 04 Clearer claims on the homepage slides The homepage slides needed the right message for each product. On the capsules slide we replaced the old copy with the four points Jose gave us: Grass Fed & Grass Finished, 5 Organ Complex, 600mg of each organ, and 3,000 total mg in each serving. A claim that did not fit the capsules was moved to slide one, under "Cleanest cakes on the planet." The team wrote the slide one copy.
- 05 A Reviews link and mobile fixes Because the Amazon reviews could only live on product pages, Jose suggested a "Reviews" link at the top of the site that takes shoppers straight to them. We added it. We then worked through mobile responsiveness across the redesigned pages and finished on 23 January. After that, Jose had a final round to flag anything he wanted changed.
- 06 A sales catalog in the same style After the site, Jose asked for a simple catalog he could send by email. We designed it in Figma as a digital PDF covering the five products from the website, with product images, specs and a "Get Beef Cakes" button that links to the store. On his feedback, we separated the oatmeal, pancakes and capsules and added his contact email. We also added Yuka scores: Maple Oatmeal 86, Maple Pancakes 84 and Diner Pancakes 86.
